about
Since a new couple is often referred to as being “lovebirds”, Selby Copeland (co-writer) and I agreed it would be humorous if when they start falling out of love, we called them “hatebirds” instead. Thus our song “Hatebirds” was born: a song about the transition from intense love to disdain for someone.
lyrics
Thought we’d never be anything but forever
Here we stand right now on the worse end of better
Our star was shining bright, now it’s a burnt-out light
Darkness, she won’t fade, I’m not gonna let her
Hope you feel my curse
Ain’t nothing worse
Than being hatebirds
Love hurts,
Left me real burnt
I’ve been on a red alert
Watch me
Walk on out that door
Finally get what you deserve
Love hurts being hatebirds
Keep hearing people say love never dies
I think that you know that’s the truth and a lie
It doesn’t go away, no it’s just replaced
Going up in smoke, stoking our demise
Hope you feel my curse
Ain’t nothing worse
Than being hatebirds
Love hurts,
Left me real burnt
I’ve been on a red alert
Watch me
Walk on out that door
Finally get what you deserve
Love hurts being hatebirds
Oh, ain’t nothing worse
Than being hatebirds
Love hurts,
Left me real burnt
I’ve been on a red alert
Watch me
Walk on out that door
Finally get what you deserve
Love hurts, oh, being hatebirds
